Albemarle High School is a public high school serving grades 9 through 12, the largest of the Albemarle County Public Schools located in the Jack Jouett District, just outside Charlottesville, Virginia. Albemarle High School was founded in 1953. The current principal is Dr. Matthew Haas, also known as "The Docta", who was appointed in 2004 following the retirement of Lawrence A. Lawwill. Albemarle High School receives all students from Sutherland Middle School, and some from Jack Jouett Middle School and Burley Middle School. The main building includes many science labs, two computer labs, a media center, a full auditorium, rooms for the band and choir, art rooms, a photography lab, a cafeteria, and two gymnasiums. Albemarle High School is abound with honors, Advanced Placement, and dual enrollment classes through nearby Piedmont Virginia Community College. [1]
