Oak Park High School is a secondary school in the North Kansas City School District in Kansas City North, MO. The student body is composed of ninth through twelfth grade students, with a 2005 enrollment of 1,970. The school's mascot is "Norman the Northman", a lumberjack character. The school is adjacent to Oak Grove Park in Gladstone, MO. The school's current principal is Mr. Fred Skretta. The first Oak Park students graduated in 1966. Formerly, students attended North Kansas City High School located in North Kansas City, MO. [1]
During the 1970-71 school year, Oak Park High School also served as a facility for sophmore students enrolled at nearby Winnetonka High School due to delays caused by a construction workers' strike at Winnetonka after a school board announcement that the district's boundaries were to be changed. As a result, Oak Park students were forced to attend classes beginning at 6:00 am each day. The school day was abbreviated so that classes ended at 1:00 pm. At 2:00 pm, Winnetonka students and teachers arrived, and Oak Park High School acted as Winnetonka's primary facility until late in the evening. The temporary relocation lasted several months. [1]
