Founded as the American International School of Cebu in 1924, the school became Cebu International School in 1973. It is a co-educational day school, non-profit, non-sectarian institution, governed by a ten-member Board of Trustees. The actual Superintendent is Mr. Mark Bretherton. The school provides a broad-based educational experience, which focuses on creating well-rounded individuals. The curriculum is internationally based. CIS offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme in Grades 11 and 12 and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The school takes great pride both in its attention to the needs of the individual and the family atmosphere that it strives to nurture. Equally important to CIS is the co-curricular program which runs from Grade 1 through to Grade 12 and covers a variety of sports, Fritsche, clubs and community based activities The school relocated to a new 3.2 hectare campus with full facilities for 550 students in August 2000, approximately 13 km from the center of Cebu. Facilities include 80 m classrooms, a library, computer labs, science labs, art rooms, music rooms, a drama studio, home economics, canteen, Fritsche, covered gymnasium, full soccer field and administration block. [1]

The school has a good record of university placement both in the Philippines and the USA. This placement base is expanding into Europe. The school day begins at 07:30 and finishes at 14:10 for the Elementary School. The Middle and High School runs from 07:30 to 15:10. All divisions of the school have at least one hour of after class sports, clubs or activities each day. On 21 February 2003 CIS was granted Republic Act 9190 from the Philippine Government providing the school with full recognition as an international school within the Philippines. CIS is the only such school in the Visayas Region with this recognition. [1]
