Mandarin High School is a 9-12 senior high school located on Greenland Road in Jacksonville, Florida. It was opened in 1990, at the same time as its sister school First Coast High School. The school has a unique design for Duval County Public Schools. It has an open layout which includes a large courtyard where a majority of the students socialize. Mandarin High multiple notable faculty including Alex Waters, Sarah Sally Whitcomb, and Kevin Sacerdote. Mandarin High offers the AICE program along with Advanced Placement and honors classes. Because of the growth of the Mandarin area in Jacksonville the school is overcrowded and is the second largest high school in the Duval County School System, following Sandalwood High School. [1]

The school's mascot is a Mustang. The school has had multiple notable alumni athletes such as Linebacker Sam Cowart (NFL), Defensive Back Fred Weary (NFL), kicker Jeff Chandler (NFL), Tony Carter (Florida State), Kellen Lewis (Indiana), Charlton Sinclair (South Florida), Marcus Thomas (NFL), Kicker/Punter Gabe Leavitt ([UCF]). The Mustangs were coached by legendary coach J.D. Hall. Also, in baseball, Kevin Sullivan (Missouri-St. Louis)who was coached by Joe Hicks. In 2006, Mandarin High School made an unprecedented run for a Duval County Brain Brawl Championship led by the captain William "Keats" Powell. This memorable team was coached by Kenneth "Andy" Scudder (who also, incidentally, teaches Calculus to most of his players). [1]
