Captain Shreve High School (CSHS) is an engineering and liberal arts magnet high school located in Shreveport, Louisiana. Captain Shreve High School was opened in the fall of 1967. The school was named for Captain Henry Miller Shreve, who was responsible for clearing the log jam on the Red River which led to the founding of Shreveport in 1835. Captain Shreve is one of the largest high schools in Shreveport. The school is a three-story circular building built in the round. The school is somewhat famous for having actress Valerie Bertinelli perform at a talent show when two of her brothers attended school there. Successful film and television actor Richard Folmer has also assisted in the instruction of theater at the school. In 1973, Captain Shreve won the AAAA State Championship in football, and the AAAA State Championship in Baseball in 2006. Captain Shreve High School is a Blue Ribbon School.[1]
