PNRC-Davao City Chapter originates from the lone Red Cross chapter that was established in 1946 to address the enormous post-war humanitarian needs in the vast region of Davao. Based in Davao City, it served then the provinces of Davao Del Sur, Davao Del Norte, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, and the cities of Davao, Tagum, Digos, Panabo, and Samal until separate and distinct Red Cross chapters were created to serve these areas. Today, Davao City Red Cross generally provides multifarious humanitarian services to Davao City, which has a total land area of 244,000 hectares (2,443.61 sq. km.) and an estimated population of close to 2.0 million.
